Nestled within the Tottenham Marshes, the Edible Garden outside the Waterside Café at Stonebridge Lock provides students and trainees with the opportunity to learn about growing food on a unique work experience placement.

The Edible Garden project is led by the Canal & River Trust, who first developed the garden and built the raised beds. my AFK has now adopted the garden and is using this wonderful outdoor space to teach students and trainees about horticulture as they complete their work experience.

Edible Garden wins awards

In 2018 the Edible Garden at Stonebridge Lock won the Canal & River Trust’s ‘Waterways Alive Awards’ for Best Community Activity: “The award for Community Activity went to Spirit of Stonebridge which has turned a heavily vandalised area on the River Lee with the highest repair bills of any operational property on our network into a busy community hub, enjoyed by local people.”

The Edible Garden also won the ‘Project of the Year‘ Award at my AFK’s Community and Trainee Awards Ceremony in October 2018, voted for on the night by attendees.

In 2019, Stonebridge Lock was given a Green Flag Award, a prestigious international environmental award given to “spaces that boast the highest possible environmental standards, are beautifully maintained and have excellent visitor facilities” – read the press release here.
