Working with Schools

ⓘ Please note: we are currently reviewing our services and our Education and Training Programme will be changing.

We will continue working with young people in education aged 16+ through our Edible Garden Project and our Bikes for Good Causes Café, but will no longer have young people in to do work experience at our head office in Haringey.

We are currently developing other partnerships to broaden the range of opportunities for disabled young people and will focus work on giving disabled young people greater access to the working world.

Our work with young people leaving education to find purposeful work experience and jobs after school will continue through our Life & Work Programme.

If you are aged 16+ and have a learning disability, my AFK can help you learn the skills you need to find a job.

You can do work experience at our bike shop and café called Bikes For Good Causes, and at our Edible Garden project.

You will learn:

  • Punctuality
  • Communicating with colleagues, peers, managers and customers
  • Working in a team
  • Following instructions and prioritising tasks
  • Focusing on, sustaining interest and persisting with tasks
  • Completing tasks to a good standard

At the bike shop and café, you could:

  • Make coffee using the coffee machine, as well as tea and other drinks
  • Help customers by taking their orders and serving them drinks and snacks
  • Learn how to use the till

At the Edible Garden, you could:

    • Learn how to grow food in the garden
    • Learn general gardening skills
    • Learn employability skills

We currently work with schools and colleges in Camden, Haringey, Islington, Enfield, Barnet, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest and Hackney.
